My Independence Day

Three legged German Shepherd dog Wyatt celebrates one year anniversary of his leg amptuation.

July 2nd, 2009. One year ago today, I broke free from the shackles of my oppressor. It cost me my leg, but the good people at the German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California made sure that I found the right pack to help me transition to the Tripawd lifestyle.

Like any self-respecting dawg would, I never looked back at my old life. Once I joined the Tripawds pack, I got swept up into foster care, and when my new parents took me in, I couldn’t believe my good luck.

No more being tied to a rope all day, no more concrete back yard in the ghetto. I busted out of hell and now, one year later, I know I’m in heaven.

In one year, I’ve learned to walk, run and create a ruckus on three legs. I’ve gotten to see a lot of cool places, and now here I am, living at Jerry’s Acres in Colorado.

Tonight as I stretch out on the comfy rug next to Dad, I really am pretty thankful. Sometimes I don’t show it, but now that I’m older (17 months tomorrow!),  I let Mom hug me and squeeze me and smush my face with her kisses. I didn’t used to let her do that, you know. I didn’t want any creepy humans to touch me, I wasn’t sure if they would tie me to a rope or what.

But now, I think this good life is making me soft. And the Belt Buckle is teaching me that a strong pack is a good pack.

Mom said something about a big piece of beef waiting for me in the freezer for my ampuversary dinner. Yum! Gotta run!

Hoppy Ampuversary to Meeeeeeeee!

Oh, if you’re wondering what kind of present to get me for my ampuversary, all I want is for more pups to find pawesome furever homes like I did. We dogs have a lot to teach you crazy humans, so get out there and help us find homes, will ya?

I’ve Been Everywhere, Man

Three legged spokes dog Wyatt Ray shares his winter road trip adventure travels from Colorado to Californi and back.

When my folks got me out of Oaktown in August, I had no idea what I was in for.

They took me to their house in the mountains, and it was great. But just when I thought I was going to have a nice comfy life up here, white stuff started falling from the sky and before I could say “Snow Day!” Mom and Dad packed our stuff up and away we went.

Nevada. California. Arizona. New Mexico. Texas. New Mexico again. Then, back to Colorado, which is where we are now.

It was a crazy winter and I have to admit, I was a pretty crazy dog. What I saw, man it was so different from the life in the city that I knew. We  had our share of ups and downs, but I think it was a pretty good trip.

The last couple of weeks I got to see some humans who met me when I first joined my pawrent’s pack. And you know what they said?

They said that I had changed!

Some of them said I was much healthier and stronger. And others said that I was more well behaved and paid more attention to Mom and Dad. Me? Me! That made me feel pretty good, and I think I saw Dad smile too.

Now, we’re back in the big dog house that doesn’t go anywhere, hanging out and working working working. Well, Mom and Dad are working on their computers all the time.

Me, I’m keeping guard and watching out for the moose that we keep seeing around here.  And I try to get my folks out to enjoy this pretty place.

It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

The Desert Rose Routine

We’ve been at this Desert Rose place for a while now, it must be our new home. It’s what they call an RV park, but I sure like that place in the mountains much better. Here I’m learning about these things called sidewalks, and how you’re supposed to walk on them even though there are huge green fields all around.

What is a golf course anyway, and why to those funny looking two legged critters with the long black necks get to hang out there? They waddle around like they own the place, and boy do they look tasty!

I do get to run though a big desert field, but it’s really dusty and I’m always getting little sharp thorny things stuck in my paws. And I never get to run off leash, except when playing ball in the big rocky fenced in area with all the empty RVs. But I only get to play ball after my people make me walk up and down all the rows… Wyatt stop. Sit, down, stay, Wyatt come! Repeat.

Eventually that ball comes out and I get to run crazy wild. The rocks hurt when I slide to a stop and bounce around biting at the ball. But my leg is getting stronger, and that callous I’ve had on it from dragging sometimes is getting tougher.

A couple times we went for a short drive to another RV park that’s much prettier. It’s got lots of trees, with lots of leaves, but I guess is too far away for René to ride her bike to her job at Amazon, whatever that is. I don’t mind this little house on wheels so much, since I can get up on the couch, but I definitely liked it better when we all worked at home.

Hey Everypawdy!

Wyatt give big shout out for Tripawds three legged dog play on words reference.

Check it out! Admin just started a three legged lexicon discussion in the shout outs forum. Tripawds member storm suggested the idea after noticing all the fun plays on words by three legged dog lovers in this ongoing thread celebrating Tanner’s ten month ampuversary.

I think that deserves a big shout out indeed! Great ideas from everypawty here in the forums and blogs makes Tripawds such a great community. Thank you all for your continued suppawrt. OK, that may be reaching a bit. But I’ll be hoppy to add everypawty.

Can you think of any pawsible words or phrases to add? OOF, There’s another one! 🙂
